Mail theft and mailbox vandalism have become rampant not only in our community but throughout the Bay Area and the nation as a whole. The Eden Shores HOA neighborhood has been the victim of mailbox vandalism and mail theft for so long now that the HOA has decided - during its board meeting held March 26 - to upgrade 22 of the vulnerable mailboxes within the neighborhood with new, more secure CBUs (cluster box units) that are equipped with the so-called MAL (Modified Arrow Lock) locks.
MAL locks are designed to deter counterfeiting of keys, and experience and the records indicate that those mailboxes equipped with MAL locks have withstood vandalism or have averted being broken into. However, MAL locks cannot be installed on older-type CBUs, and for this reason the HOA has decided to replace those twenty-two (22) older-type CBUs in the neighborhood with the newer MAL-lock equipped CBUs.
Orders have been placed for twenty-two (22) new mailboxes (see list below) - and homeowners should be seeing them installed by the end of April or within the first three weeks of May this year.
Below is a list of the forty-two (42) cluster mailboxes in the three neighborhoods (The Bay, The Cape, and The Breakers) that shows the twenty-two (22) CBUs that will be replaced. [Each of the 42 cluster mailbox units in the neighborhood is identified by a CBU number (between #01 and #42) that is located at the lower end (base) of the CBU pedestal.)
